Even after both girls clearly told him they were not interested and asked him to stop, he continued contacting them over a period of months, including sending dozens of messages and suggesting he was waiting for one of them to turn 18. 

Impact on Victim: Both victims reported feeling frightened, overwhelmed, and unable to escape the ongoing contact. The repeated messages caused significant emotional distress and forced the girls to involve their families and police because they no longer felt safe handling the situation on their own.

Sentence Summary: Sentenced to approximately 2 years of further incarceration followed by a lengthy 3-year probation period with strict "no-contact" and electronic monitoring conditions.

Matthew Edward Williams

Sentence Summary: Pollock was sentenced to 60 days in jail followed by 3 years of probation. He was also ordered to pay $1,900 in restitution.

Jennifer Plantz

Charges: Criminal harassment and assault

Offender’s Actions: Jennifer Plantz engaged in a prolonged three-year campaign of harassment against a man she had met only once through an online dating app. She repeatedly filed more than 20 false police complaints accusing him of stalking, assault, and sexual assault, attended his apartment building, impersonated other people to contact him, and even caused him to be arrested multiple times despite knowing the allegations were false. 

Impact on Victim: The victim described the experience as a “living nightmare” that completely upended his life. As a result of Plantz’s actions, he was arrested three times, spent three nights in jail, moved three times to try to escape her, and developed significant anxiety and fear about answering the phone, opening the door, or going out in public. 

Sentence Summary: Plantz pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a 15-month conditional sentence to be served in the community under house arrest.

David Crowe

The attempt to deceive the court prolonged the victim’s ordeal and forced them to change daily routines, communication habits, and other aspects of their life in order to stay safe.

Aydin Coban

Charges: Extortion, criminal harassment, communication with a young person to commit a sexual offence, and possession and distribution of child pornography. 

Court Location: Supreme Court of British Columbia in New Westminster, BC. 

Offender’s Actions: Coban engaged in a prolonged online campaign targeting Amanda Todd over several years, beginning when she was only 12 years old. Using fake identities and numerous online accounts, he manipulated, threatened, and repeatedly contacted her, shared intimate images of her, and continued to extort and harass her after she tried to cut off contact and move on with her life. 

Impact on Victim: Amanda Todd lived in constant fear, anxiety, and emotional distress as a result of the ongoing harassment and blackmail. The continued threats and humiliation severely affected her mental health, disrupted her schooling and relationships, and left her feeling unable to escape the offender’s actions.  A month before taking her own life,  Amanda Todd posted a viral video on YouTube to share her experience of being blackmailed, being harassed, being bullied and physically assaulted.

Sentence Summary: Coban was sentenced to 13 years in prison by the B.C. Supreme Court in October 2022. The judge imposed a harsher sentence because of the length of the harassment, the broad distribution of the images, and Coban’s lack of remorse. 

James Alfred Finch

Charges: Criminal harassment and watching and besetting

Court Location: Lethbridge Provincial Court

Offender’s Actions: Finch engaged in a prolonged pattern of unwanted and escalating contact toward a woman he did not know. He repeatedly sent her Facebook messages and text messages over several months, became angry when she rejected him, and later appeared outside her home, where he was caught looking through a window in her backyard. 

Impact on Victim: The victim reported feeling frightened and increasingly unsafe as Finch’s behaviour escalated. The persistent messages, combined with his appearance outside her home, left her fearing for her safety and unable to feel secure in her own residence. 

Sentence Summary: Finch received a 9-month conditional sentence to be served in the community, followed by 15 months of probation.

Gianluigi Derossi

Charges: Four counts of fraud, one count of perjury, and one count of breaching a recognizance.

Court Location: Provincial Court of British Columbia, New Westminster

Offender’s Actions: Gianluigi Derossi, also known as Reza Moeinian, engaged in a prolonged pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour toward Stephanie Forster after their separation. Despite being subject to a protection order that prohibited him from contacting her or attending her home, workplace, or school, he allegedly continued to torment her, repeatedly breached his conditions, and used tracking technology and other means to monitor and locate her

Impact on Victim: Stephanie Forster took extensive steps to protect herself after the relationship ended. She obtained a protection order, changed her phone number, moved three times and endured months of fear, stalking, and ongoing breaches of the protection order. She lived in constant fear and frustration, feeling that the system was failing to protect her even though she had done everything she was told to do. Stephanie Forster found and removed an Apple AirTag from her vehicle, and had arranged for police to search her car again for possible tracking devices the day after she was killed. 

Case Outcome: Derossi was identified by police as the main suspect in Forster’s death, but he died by suicide two days later during a traffic stop before he could stand trial.

Charges: Six counts of criminal harassment relating to 12 different complainants

Sentence Summary: Singh received a suspended sentence with three years’ probation, strict no-contact restrictions, and may face deportation.

Kenneth "Ken" Carter

Offender’s Actions: Carter carried out a lengthy and highly organized campaign of stalking and harassment against his former girlfriend during an acrimonious custody dispute. Over many months, he hired a private investigator and several police officers to secretly follow her, place a GPS tracker on her vehicle, monitor her movements, obtain private information about her, and contact people in her life in an effort to keep her under constant surveillance and control.

Impact on Victim: The victim was subjected to an extraordinary and ongoing invasion of her privacy, leaving her feeling as though she could never escape being watched. The constant monitoring and knowledge that multiple people had been enlisted to track her caused significant fear, anxiety, and emotional distress, disrupting her daily routines and leaving her unable to feel safe in her own community.

Sentence Summary: Carter was sentenced to 3 years in prison. The court found that the sustained nature of the stalking, including the involvement of former police officers, made a custodial sentence necessary.

Steve and Heather Walton

Steve Walton hired serving Calgary police officers to conduct surveillance and obtain confidential police information, while Heather Walton assisted in arranging and paying for access to police databases and surveillance activities over a period of months. 

Impact on Victim: The victim learned that she had been secretly followed and monitored using the resources of the police service, leaving her feeling deeply unsafe and violated. The harassment caused significant fear, emotional distress, and an ongoing loss of trust because the people involved included former and current police officers who were supposed to protect the public. 

Sentence Summary: Steve Walton was sentenced to 3 years in federal prison. Heather Walton received a 15-month conditional sentence to be served in the community under strict house arrest.

Amanda Mae Wowk

Sentence Summary: Wowk was sentenced to 1 year in prison. The court found that her conduct imposed a sentence to reflect her prolonged harassment and deception.

Darren Ross Noddle

Patrick Henry Fox

She described his actions as a “slow-motion execution” of her reputation and sanity, leaving her living in constant fear, emotional distress, and a profound loss of safety.

Sentence Summary: Sentenced to nearly 4 years in prison followed by 3 years of probation. (Note: He was later declared a Dangerous Offender).

Darrin Sim

Damany Skeene

Kathryn Wade

Robert Wall

Giovanni Palumbo

As a result, she was forced to greatly increase her personal security and make major changes to her daily life and public appearances.

Over time, the victims became increasingly fearful and anxious, with the persistent pattern of behaviour undermining their sense of security and peace of mind.

Sentence Summary: Elizee received a 5-year prison sentence followed by a 10-year Long-Term Supervision Order after being designated a Long-Term Offender.
